The Dior Pre-Fall 2024 collection was inspired by Marlene Dietrich, who once wore men's tuxedos with the same elegance as sequins, feathers, and feminine floor-length dresses. The collection's lookbook recreated the atmosphere of Hollywood's golden era.
To create this moodboard, Maria Grazia Chiuri used images of Marlene Dietrich in her personalized costumes created especially for her by Christian Dior. Chiuri strives to understand the brand's history better and has studied not only the founder's archives but also the women he dressed.
"I think her style was very modern," says Chiuri, explaining her fascination with Dietrich. "She played with fashion very consciously, which was evident even then." The star's suits in the movies inspired her to add ties to crisp cotton poplin shirts and complete some looks with fedora hats. The bar jacket was modernized with updated, more streamlined lapels.
